Book Talk: North and South

Bring on the torches and pitchforks...because I’m a monster. One who’s about to admit that I liked a BBC miniseries better than the book on which it was based. North and South had been in my Netflix queue for a while, but I hadn’t realized that it was based on a novel by Elizabeth Gaskell. And when I fell in love with the characters - thank you Richard Armitage - I knew I had to read the book.

The book is always better, I said. The writing will give you more to love about the characters and storylines, I said. But when I finally finished North and South - I say finally because it took me a couple tries to get any momentum - I was left feeling utterly disappointed. I’m pretty sure the words That’s it?! came out of my mouth upon turning the last page. A book that falls flat compared to it’s adaptation? It happens rarely, but when it does, I always feel completely betrayed.

What's the matter with me? Is North and South really as challenging to read as I make it seem, or do I need an attitude adjustment and a reread? Let me know down below!
