Book Tag: Burn, Rewrite, or Reread
Hi guys! You might have been expecting a #FirstImpressionFriday since it is, in fact, Friday, but I've had a crazy couple of weeks and when I sat down to work on one of those, I just wasn't feeling it - instead I found myself working on another book tag. I had fun with this one, and I hope you do too!

I first saw this tag on Love at First Page. Burn, Rewrite, or Reread seems like the F*@#, Marry, Kill of book tags, and although I knew it would be tough, I immediately wanted to save it for a rainy day.
Here are the rules: there are three rounds, in which I'll use a random number generator to choose three books from my Goodreads “read” shelf and then decide what I’ll do: burn, rewrite, or reread. So let's get into it!
Round One
Rewrite: Before I Fall - I liked the premise of this novel, but it felt a little too immature for my taste, even knowing that it's YA lit. EEEP! I'm burning and rewriting her books? I promise I really do love Lauren Oliver!! I talked about Vanishing Girls here. I'm hoping to have a book talk about Panic posted soon!
Reread: Collected Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald - there's some short stories in this collection that I haven't even read yet! But definitely a book I'll be rereading for a long time to come.
Round Two
Burn: RIP Travis and Abby. Walking Disaster is the the sequel to the first New Adult novel I ever read, Beautiful Disaster, and I'll remember it fondly, but it's gotta go.
Rewrite: Dark Places - there really isn't any glaring issue with this novel that I'd like to take care of in a rewrite - I really enjoyed it (book talk up soon!) - but I couldn't burn it, and while I could reread it, that spot definitely goes to the other book in question, so rewrite it is! And let's face it, it would be pretty amazing to get writing tips from The Goddess of Grim - Gillian Flynn.
Reread: Definitely My Side of the Mountain - it's been absolutely ages since I read this novel (it's a children/tweens book, and I'm now eager to do a reread of it. I don't remember the plot in great detail, but I do remember really enjoying this book the first time around, and it's had some high praise and awards in it's lifetime.
Round Three
Burn: The Vampire Diaries. As much as I LOVE the television show, this book just fell flat. I really disliked this (and the book that followed) and ultimately DNF the series. What a bummer.
Rewrite: Okay, so the first two rounds lulled me into complacency a little bit. I think I got lucky with my random choices! How am I supposed to choose a book to rewrite when they are both so incredible?! UGH. OKAY. I'm choosing His Dark Materials, only because if I was rewriting them I would have an excuse to interview Philip Pullman and ask him all kinds of questions about the trilogy and allegory and theology and what his daemon would be. I did recently acquire an cool edition of the series (I'm super stoked) and I WILL be rereading it soon!
Reread: You Come Too is a collection of poems by Robert Frost that are intended to be performed orally. I really really really love Robert Frost, and I think the idea behind this collection is amazing and I will continue to reread (and share) this book for a long time to come.
So that's it! I really enjoyed this tag - I think the "random" element incorporated some books that I probably wouldn't have thought of or talked about otherwise. Omg such a fun tag!! THANK YOU FOR TAGGING ME. ^_^ I like the random-picking-element too, so I might do that. But ahhh I have such a love/hate relationship with Lauren Oliver! I've read 4 of her books and adored 2 and loathed 2, so I guess I need to keep reading from her, right?! :D I do so so so love Vanishing Girls though.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it :D I had such a blast! It took a little time to do the randomized selection, but in the end it was totally worth it.
DeleteIt's SO nice to talk to someone who understands my conflicting feelings about Lauren Oliver. I think she's incredibly talented but it's kind of a weird situation where I feel compelled to read ALL THE THINGS, even the meh ones, so I can be sure not to miss out on her great books. It sounds like you kind of feel the same way!
Panic was awesome, so if you haven't read that, it might be one to check out! I'm also really curious about her first non-YA novel, Rooms. Have you read it?
