Book Talk: Since You've Been Gone
Before I jump in, I have a PSA to explain why this blog post is so brief: I wrote about a paragraph about this book when I first finished it (several months ago) and promptly forgot about it. My Olympic-level procrastination and forgetfulness is in no way a reflection of this novel, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm an imperfect person. Forgive me.
It's the perfect summertime read, especially because it's all about a summer full of the unexpected. Emily and Sloan are best friends, but opposites in every way - Emily is the sidekick to vibrant Sloan, and that's just the way she likes it. But after Sloan disappears without a trace, Emily has to confront the reality of losing not just the person who knew her better than anyone, but her identity as well - as one half of a package deal, Emily has used Sloan to define herself for so long that she doesn't know who she is without Sloan by her side.
As someone who strongly identified with Emily, I was eager to see how her story unfolded, and I wasn't disappointed. I read a ton of YA last year, and I think I wore myself out a little. But I found myself eagerly devouring this book - I finished it in just a couple of days. It's hard to go into detail since it's been months since I've read it, but I do remember really enjoying the story and would recommend it, especially if you're looking for a summertime read (or something to help you pretend it's still summertime, if you're one of the lucky ones experiencing winter weather) because it's a great contemporary YA option.
So glad you liked it!!! (I need to read it ASAP!!!) I also hardcore procrastinate when it comes to reviews. (It's a problem!!!)
