Monthly Scribbles: April

I took a bit of an unexpected hiatus, but I'm back with a (belated) monthly scribbles, where I scribble about all the things I've been living and loving in the month of April.

Most Read?

I definitely slacked off on my reading challenge this month, but I did manage to read a few books, including Persuasion by Jane Austen. I've always loved Austen and I've been slowly making my way through her writing. I loved Persuasion. It follows Anne Elliot, a woman who was swayed by her friends and family to throw over the man she loved because he wasn't high enough in station. The book begins several years after this has occurred. The man's brother and sister in law end up moving into the Elliot's part of town, forcing Anne to confront her choice from all those years ago. It's sad and snarky and silly and all things Austen. Just what I needed this month.

Most Watched?

I've become completely obsessed with The Good Wife. Unfortunately, because the show is ending (or already has? I'm not sure) people have been (unintentionally) throwing ALL THE SPOILERS at me. I'm only on season 3, people! I'm still loving it. It's got an incredible cast and everyone that seems to pop up is a talented person I recognize from something else I've seen. If you don't know, the series follows Julianna Margulies' Alicia Florrick as she deals with the fallout of her State's Attorney husbands' sex scandal and decides whether she will remain by his side as the "good wife."

Most Worn?

I ordered this adorable shirt when Out of Print clothing partnered with Harry Potter Alliance during National Library Week. A portion of the proceeds even went to help build a library! I love literally everything from Out of Print and I'm in deep, deep love with the banned books tote bag my mom bought me for my birthday! You can catch a glimpse of it in one of the pictures further down.

Most Heard?

My most heard this month is, without a doubt, U-Turn by Tegan and Sara. I've loved the evolution of their music throughout the years, and this new song is no different. It's a huge departure from their more meditative acoustic ballads, and it channels the 80's in the best way. I can understand why some fans might be put off by such a radical departure from indie to pop, but I. can't. stop. listening.

Most Heart?

I know I already talked about what I've been listening to this month, but I couldn't not include this podcast. When I first discovered it, I listened to every available episode in one day. Alice Isn't Dead is  serial fiction - one story told over many episodes - and it's made by the team behind Welcome to Night Vale. I'll include the official blurb about the show here:

A truck driver searches across America for the wife she had long assumed was dead. In the course of her search, she will encounter not-quite-human serial murderers, towns literally lost in time, and a conspiracy that goes way beyond one missing woman.

It's narrated by Jasika Nicole, whose name and voice I already recognized from another weird and wonderful production she was involved in: the tv show, Fringe. I won't give anything away, but I'll just say that I'm anxiously awaiting the next episode because I need to know what happens next!

Most Magical?

My magical moment - a la leighannsays - was my birthday. I had to work long hours and didn't expect to do much in the way of celebrating, but my family surprised me with dinner and some really thoughtful gifts. It was very sweet. I had kind of a rough month, so here's hoping I have lots of magical moments to share at the end of May!
