The Spanish Love Deception is a book I discovered because I follow the author, bookstagrammer Elena Armas (thebibliotheque)! TSLD was MADE to pull me out of the months long book slump I’ve been in - it’s got the perfect blend of romance and comedy. I knew it was my kind of book when it referenced one of my all time favorite romcoms (The Wedding Date) within the first few pages! Like The Wedding Date, TSLD relies heavily on the fake dating and wedding weekend tropes. Lina and Aaron are coworkers with their share of animosity when - to Lina’s surprise - Aaron offers to be her date to her sister’s wedding, where the best man happens to be her ex. There’s enemies to lovers, fake dating, and - of course - only one bed. I loved the way Armas addressed women in the workplace and harassment, and there’s a lovely depth to these characters and their families. While I often wanted to grab Lina and shake her by the shoulders, I also couldn’t help but root for her and Aaron, and had so much fun watching their story unfold. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: On a white shelf sits a kindle displaying the ebook cover of The Spanish Love Deception.
