Continuing my binge of the Ravenels series by Lisa Kleypas, I picked up Devil in Spring. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pandora is a walking disaster: she can’t walk, talk, or dance like a lady of her station is supposed to. She’s not interested in getting married, instead focusing on building her board game empire. She’s always getting into scrapes, which is how she inadvertently and inconveniently finds herself ruined. Gabriel likes his life as it is and isn’t interested in changing it — until he meets Pandora. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pandora and Gabriel’s story gave me MAJOR Dottie and Hugh vibes (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries). I loved that Pandora’s storyline focused on maintaining her independence, but I kept getting frustrated by how childish she seemed and how much her character relied on the “not like other girls” trope — it just didn’t work for me. There was a lot I did enjoy, though! Gabriel’s parents were delightful (we stan a supportive MIL) and I’m always going to break my heart in two for a hospital bed scene. Rhys mentoring Pandora in growing her business was a lovely touch. If you like he falls first and forced proximity, this one is for you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CW: child abuse, sexual content ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: A mass market paperback of Devil in Spring stands in front of a stack of paperbacks with their pages facing forward so you can’t see the titles. There are trees and bushes visible in the background. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CY_pjAdLbJH/
