#FirstImpressionFriday: Where'd You Go, Bernadette
Okay okay, so it's Wednesday. But like, late Wednesday, which makes it almost Thursday. And if it's Thursday here, then it's already Friday in another time zone, right? I'll admit it's a bit of a stretch, but First Impression Wednesday just didn't have the same ring to it. Let's get to why I'm here: to share first impressions about my current read, Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple.
It seems like everyone and their mother was reading this book a few years ago, but it's just now making it's way to me. I've had a busy couple of weeks and I've had a hard time keeping up with the "heavier" novels I've got going, so it felt like this book came at the perfect time. My initial reaction was that this book is so, so funny, in a way that feels familiar - the kind of funny of a family who uses humor to deal with the very unfunny struggles that they're going through.
This book is definitely striking a chord with me, both as a human being and as someone whose family has also dealt with depression and anxiety. I just started today and I've already read two of seven parts, so if that's any indication, I'm excited about seeing what else this book has in store. Let me know - have you read this book? How did you feel about it? And what should I read next??
UPDATE: Things felt a little sluggish about halfway through, but I pushed through and I'm glad I did! Read it, loved it, recc'd it.
