June Book Haul

I have a problem. The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, right? I discovered two local bookstores this month and I finally had some time off, so I went a little crazy. And by "a little crazy" I mean if you hear a loud crash, it's probably my apartment collapsing under the weight of all the books I purchased this month.

You can also see my adorable bookends, which are not actually bookending my TBR pile, but are instead propping up the books that make me look interesting and well-read should anyone happen to see them while visiting my apartment. :)

I purchased Blue Asylum by Kathy Hepinstall and The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan from Barnes and Noble earlier in the month. They are both historical fiction, but from two very different time periods.

At one of my local bookstores, I bought Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (which I talked about here), A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon (author of The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night-Time), Entwined by Heather Dixon, and The Treachery of Beautiful Things by Ruth Frances Long.

The Awakening by Kate Chopin wasn't a June book buy, but I accidentally included it because it's on my TBR list.

Some of these are a little worse for the wear, but I paid around $10 for the lot, so I'm not complaining.

I also visited the new location of a used bookstore in my area, where I snatched up this awesome edition of Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. I have been hankering to reread this series for a while, so it felt like fate! And at less than $3, it was a total steal. I also picked up a contemporary novel, Left Drowning by Jessica Park (which I've finished - blog post coming soon!), as well as one of those books that everyone seems to have read but me: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.

Finally, I made one last trip to Barnes and Noble. I fished Lexicon by Max Barry out of the bargain bin, and despite being cast into book oblivion it looks promising. I also picked up Walden and Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau. I've been trying to read along with the web series Classic Alice, which I love, but it's been slow going. I also decided to try my hand at J.R.R Tolkien's The Hobbit since I haven't read a lot of fantasy. Last but not least, I picked up Mythology by Edith Hamilton, which my barista assured me was a fantastic read.

Phew! I feel like I just ran a book marathon. I'm so pumped to have some amazing books to read this summer! Can you believe that we're already halfway through 2015? Have you read any of the books I bought this month? What books did you buy this month? Let me know below!
