LAST WEEK:
I won Summer of Sloane in a giveaway @ Alice's Book Vault a few months ago, and I finally got around to reading it! It's exactly what it appears - a fun, flirty, beach read. It reads like a breeze and while I won't be reaching for it again and again, I definitely enjoyed it. There's something about summertime that makes me reach for YA contemporary novels like this one.
The 5th Wave has been sitting on my bookshelf for months. I picked it up on the recommendation of one of my students, and while I enjoyed it well enough while I was reading it, I won't be running out to pick up the next book in the series. Maybe it's because I'm burned out on dystopian literature, or maybe it's because I didn't click with this story like I did with The Hunger Games or Divergent, but I just wasn't invested enough to feel like I had to find out what happened next. The author had 450+ pages to grab me, and it never really happened.
THIS WEEK:
The Gilded Years has been on my radar since it's publication, but it fell into my lap the last time I was in the library and I knew I had to check it out. It's historical fiction based on the true story of an African American woman who passes as white in order to attend Vassar College. I'm super excited to start this!
Emily @ Forever Literary is the one who made me add No Parking at the End Times to my TBR, and I'm hoping to start it soon! It's about a family whose parents join a religious cult that believes the end it nigh! The description reminds me of The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly, which I really, really enjoyed. I'm hoping I enjoy this one as well, though I know it won't be as dark and twisty.
