Y’all, I think David Yoon just became one of my new favorite authors. Frankly in Love was an absolute DELIGHT. Smart, funny, swoon worthy, with heart and soul and WOAH some hard hitting stuff, too. Frank is a high-achieving, 1st-generation, Korean-American teen struggling to reconcile his hyphenation. He’s also falling for a white girl - someone his parents definitely wouldn’t approve of. Frank Li’s struggle with identity and race, his relationship with his parents, his relationship with his sister, his romantic relationships, his friendships - all of it is so beautifully nuanced. I LOVE these characters and loved rooting for them. I’m always on board for a fake dating scenario because WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?! Although there is one plot line that I wish had been explored more fully (DM me if you’ve read or want to know more), this is the kind of YA book I want to throw at people who belittle young adult literature.
