Thanks to @erin_langston_writes for sending me an advance copy of The Finest Print, out September 24th! I was *so pleased* to be approved to read this book because Langston’s debut novel is maybe my favorite historical romance ever? I said what I said! The Finest Print exists in the same universe as Forever Your Rogue and Some Winter’s Evening and features cameos from our faves (I loved seeing a different side of Gavin!) but it can also be read as a standalone. It follows Belle, a true crime girlie who smells of mint because she gets tension headaches (relatable) and Ethan, a scruffy American who leans against doorways with his rolled up sleeves. She’s an aspiring novelist, he’s an indebted printer; they team up to get her published and him solvent by putting out a penny dreadful! Their story about charting your own course is so soft and, as with everything Langston writes, beautifully written. There were so many lines that stopped me dead in my tracks. It’s them against the world and reminded me so much of All I’ve Ever Known from Hadestown in the best way. This book feels like a love letter to the printed word and the way in which reading is a tool of empowerment. There’s great moments that not only address the class difference between these characters — complete with “she’s not for you” angst — but also the way in which education and access to information shaped society at the time (and still does today). I saved this book for the weekend before back to school (the scariest of all Sunday scaries) because I knew it would get me out of my head, and it absolutely delivered. The Finest Print is out so so soon and I encourage you to pick it up! 📸: A kindle displaying the ebook cover of The Finest Print sits on a white shelf.
