Courtney Milan is quickly becoming one of my favorite historical romance authors. I loveeeed the plot of The Duchess War, which has Minnie, a wallflower with hidden brilliance, and Robert, a Duke with a rebellious streak, circling each other from page one. Both have secrets they’re trying to keep while also trying to work each other’s out, and their dynamic is so much fun. Case and point: “You can’t flirt with me. I’m going to be at war with you.” Cut to me screaming internally!!! I do think that so much going on with the subplots did distract a little from the beautiful story that unfolds, but having read The Countess Conspiracy (book 3 in the series) earlier this year, it was fun to see this book lay the groundwork for Violet and Sebastian’s story. This was such a great start to the series and really gives some context for the brothers that I didn’t get by reading out of order. 📸: A kindle displaying the ebook cover of The Duchess War is on a white shelf.
