I MET THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IN MY PJs // Week 30

It's a lazy Sunday afternoon. I'm in my pajamas. I might be taking a nap. And there's knocking. I ignore it because my neighbor's door is so close to my own that its hard to tell who they're knocking for. The knocking gets more insistent. It's pretty much banging at this point. I'm thinking about whether to get dressed before I go down there when I hear my front door open and THE FIRE DEPARTMENT wants to know if they can come in. Turns out, the HVAC was leaking water into the place below mine. Whoever lives there called for help, so a large group of very nice fire/rescue people came, truck and all, to figure out what the hell was going on. Which they did. While I stood there. In my pajamas. It all got taken care of quickly and could have been way worse and was probably definitely not weird for them, but it was pretty hilarious for me (after I stopped panicking). This is also not the first time I have met the fire department in my pajamas (I was in college, and nothing was on fire then, either).

I've been on a mission this summer to finish those "projects." You know the ones. The things that you've been meaning to get around to, but for one reason or another just keep getting put on the back burner. Earlier this year, I finally bought some acrylic organizers and sorted through and shelved my hoarders-level bathroom counter and cabinet. About a month ago, I went through my closet (you could have put a door to Narnia in there and no one would have discovered it) and tossed or donated anything I hadn't worn in the last year. And this week, I finally bought a frame for a print my mom gave to me in college that had been sitting in the box it came in for literal years. It's a quote from Darcy's proposal to Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice, and I decided if I wasn't going to frame it, I needed to pass it on to someone who would. I'm dreaming of creating gallery shelves with all kinds of art and literary prints. I've also got this quote from a Mary Oliver poem that I painted during a girls night earlier this year. I like the idea of taking these things I don't really know what to do with and turning them into the focal point of a room. Now I just have to collect more things I don't need...which, come to think of it, shouldn't really be a problem for me.

A donut haiku

This donut is stale
It tastes of disappointment
But I still ate it

How was your week?
