Monthly Scribbles // July

I've loved Anderson Cooper for years, so when my mom told me that he'd co-authored a book with his mother, I immediately put a hold on it at my library. It consists of emails between himself and his mother, and because of the nature of email (time to consider, to write and rewrite, the relative anonymity of it) it was beautifully written, full of unexpected references, and deeply personal. The older I get, the more I start to reflect on my relationships with my parents and how they have shaped me, and that's really the focus of The Rainbow Comes and Goes. I also read and loved Not My Father's Son by Alan Cumming this month, which is written in the same spirit.

Specifically in July, I've been enjoying Preacher. The new (to the US) season of The Great British Bake Off has become something of a Saturday morning ritual. I watched Beauty and the Beast and The Help, which are both films I enjoy every time I see them. I watched Hidden Figures for the first time and loved it.

Kokie nail polish in Atlantis at Last. It's a brilliant royal blue that has felt just right for summer.

I've had Sleep on the Floor by The Lumineers on repeat for weeks. The music video is beautiful.

I can't stop listening to Redbone by Childish Gambino after reading Lindsay's post.

Vlora @ Reviews and Cake recommended Jordan Fisher and Lin-Manuel Miranda's cover of You're Welcome from Moana and it is AMAZING.

My magical moment this month was my decision to get back to blogging. It's been a rough year personally, politically, and in just about every other way, so it's nice to be putting my energy into something positive and getting engaged with a community of people who feel the same way.
