August Reads! This month is always a challenge, but 2020 took it to a new level. I didn't read much this month, but the books I did pick up were well worth it - they're all 4 and 5 star reads that I highly recommend. *Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy A story of survival in a world reeling from ecological disaster. This one hits scary close to home. For fans of: After the Flood by Kassandra Montag, Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo A story about two young women grappling with loss, identity, and the future in the aftermath of a plane crash. Acevedo does storytelling like no one else. For fans of: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran-Foer *The Deep by Rivers Solomon A story about history, mythology, and the power of collective memory. I've never read anything like it. For fans of: The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates *The Switch by Beth O'Leary A story about family, grief, and second chances. I highly recommend the audio. For fans of: The Holiday, Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin Dear Martin by Nic Stone A story about a young man grappling with his identity after being racially profiled by the police. I can't wait to read the sequel when it comes out! For fans of: A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow, Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds Yes, Chef by Marcus Samuelsson A story about family, food, identity, and finding where you belong. One of the best memoirs I've read in a while. For fans of: The Food Network, Waiter Rant by Steve Dublanica *I have full reviews of these books on my feed! via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CEjftU1AFJP/
