One of the things I love most about this community is finding people whose recommendations I trust implicitly - @bringmybooks, for example. When she raved about Fable by Adrienne Young, I knew I had to pick it up. First of all, the cover is STUNNING. Major props to the Wednesday books design team for the attention to detail alone (look at the shadow of a ship in her eye!!) I'm not a big fantasy reader, and as such this book hit all the right notes for me - it was just enough world building to satisfy me, but I can see how some might be left wanting more. I loved the smell of the sea. I loved the adventure. I loved the cast of characters: I will follow Fable and West and Paj and Auster and Willa on any adventure. Although I could so clearly picture Fable singing 🎶when will my life begin?🎶 a la every Disney heroine ever, I loved that this story didn't rely on the tropes I expected.
