Thanks to @librofm for an advance copy of this audiobook for review! The Sea in Winter by Christine Day is a middle grade novel — I teach high school, so I don’t tend to gravitate to that age range — but I was sucked in by the cover and description of this one! It follows Maisie, a ballerina, who is recovering from an ACL injury and grappling with her identity — as a dancer, a daughter and stepdaughter, and as an Indigenous woman. I loved Maisie’s relationship with her family and how supportive they were. I loved her journey to learn more about herself, her late father, and her culture, while also learning to navigate school and friendships (shout out to MG and YA that doesn’t center on a romantic relationship!) The author’s note at the end of the book (about her own background and experiences) really brought it all together for me, and I look forward to seeing what Day writes next. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CKEVfOFAWMA/
