There There by Tommy Orange was a book I couldn’t wait for my book club to discuss and then life happened and we just didn’t 🤣 I sometimes had a hard time following the different perspectives (via audio) but ultimately really enjoyed the interconnected narrative style of this story of a Powwow that brings together people in unexpected ways. There were passages that just absolutely punched me in the gut with their beauty, and I’ll be looking for a copy of this to add to my personal library. Themes of systemic racism, gun violence, drug and alcohol abuse, and suicide don’t make this an “easy” read, but I absolutely flew through it. I definitely don’t read as much Indigenous literature as I’d like — many of my recent reads have been memoirs such as Heartberries, A Mind Spread Out on the Ground, and Carry — so give me your recommendations! ID: I’m holding up a paperback copy of There There with one hand. Thick fog obscures the sky and trees are just barely visible in the background. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CoUptPOPxj6/
