I picked up Thunderstruck by Erik Larson because I was yearning for some nonfiction and found myself completely immersed. Told in alternating storylines, Thunderstruck is a blend of true crime and a history of the development of wireless communication. The thrill of discovery, the race to patent new technology, the failures and successes of a fledgling enterprise that quite literally changed the world as we know it and without which Crippen may never have been caught — I was hooked! Larson’s halfhearted apology in his note to readers at the beginning of the book about his love of “digressions” made me laugh but is also a fair warning. The man loves a tangent! I found myself a lost in the weeds at times when listening to the audio and probably would have been better off reading my physical copy (my plan for reading my next Larson book — Devil in the White City) 📸 1: A paperback copy of Thunderstruck lays on a white comforter. 📸 2: A clip from British sitcom Coupling, where two characters in the mist of a breakup discuss the Crippens — I had to find the clip because it took me HOURS of reading before I finally realized where I’d heard the name before!!! via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/C7RYoLFgti-/
