In an Absent Dream is the fourth book in Seanan McGuire’s Wayward Children series. The books connect but each focuses on a different character so they don’t necessarily need to be read in order - for example, this book centers on the story of Katherine Lundy, who appears as a therapist in the first book, Every Heart a Doorway. In an Absent Dream is probably my least favorite of the series so far, in large part because of the world that this book takes place in. It is a world of logic, fairness, and rules - a world with magic but without whimsy. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pick this up - far from it! Every time I talk to someone who has read the series, I find that our rankings differ depending on our personalities! These novellas are an absolute delight and I’ve been spreading them out to make the joy last longer. My ranking of the series so far: Book 2: Down Among the Sticks and Bones Book 1: Every Heart a Doorway Book 3: Beneath the Sugar Sky Book 4: In an Absent Dream If you’ve read the series, what is your ranking? via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CHp1IYWAKqM/
