Matrimony, Inc.: From Personal Ads to Swiping Right, A Story of America Looking for Love by Francesca Beauman is a book I’ve had on my TBR since before it came out, and I was thrilled to finally pick it up during Nonfiction November. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This book is FASCINATING — I love a deep dive into a subject, and this book does it well, tracing the rise of personal ads in all their many iterations. I loved hearing about the ways in which relationships have been shaped by history, geography, and circumstance, and loved getting to see ads I’d seen before (like the one by legendary serial killer Belle Gunness (“triflers need not apply”) as well as ones that were new to me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’ve ever been even a little curious about the history of dating in the United States, I strongly encourage you to pick this one up! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: A kindle displaying the ebook cover of Matrimony, Inc. sits on a white shelf, next to a plate with a chocolate croissant on it. The plate and the book cover are both yellow. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CXOVWecrjlc/
