Shout to @topy.loving.books for encouraging me to pick up Unraveled by Courtney Milan — I loved it! Things I Loved About Unraveled: -Smite is a stern brunch daddy with a literal sentimentality quota -He’s a judge who sees the world in black and white and she’s an actress who sees it in shades of grey. -He has PTSD from childhood trauma and Miranda is the first person who doesn’t treat him like he’s broken. -In spite of going through the most, Miranda is never a woman in need of rescuing. There’s a moment where Milan could have had Miranda make a stupid “I’m gonna do it ON MY OWN” choice and she doesn’t! -Neurodivergent MMC, just like in book one of the series -Social class difference is a big trope in historical romance but this book explores it in a different way: what happens when you don’t fit cleanly into any one social class? -Cool mentions about historical methods of contraception Things I Loved That Reminded Me Of Other Things I Love: -Miranda comma Darling (“I noticed a comma in the middle of a phrase / it changed the meaning, did you intend this? / one stroke and you’ve consumed my waking days” - Take a Break, Hamilton the Musical) -An “unsentimental” man keeping a hairpin from the woman he loves which turns out to be incredibly useful later (a la Michael and Fiona in Burn Notice) ID: I’m holding a kindle displaying the ebook cover of Unraveled with one hand. The tops of several books peek out of the bottom of the frame. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CwAdgtyLw10/
