Welcome to another episode of please don’t judge this series by it’s covers! Today we’re talking about The Duke and the Dressmaker, book two in Eva Devon’s Once Upon a Wallflower series. I absolutely loved book one, Beauty and the Bookseller, and had my calendar marked for the release of The Duke and the Dressmaker (both are available on KU). Lily, the down on her luck dressmaker from book one, gets her chance at love when she clashes with American Duke James. One of the things I love about this series is the way it deals with the immense wealth that is frequently associated with historical romances. Both Lily and James disdain the aristocracy and are determined to navigate their own experiences with it and use their privilege to bring about change. Both of them have endured trauma in losing their parents in the ways they did, and are just so deserving of all the good things. I also loved the cameos from Elizabeth and Garrett! Don’t let the covers dissuade you — this series is a delight, and I’m hoping there’s more coming from Eva Devon soon.
