Elsie Silver remains an author whose book releases I look forward to like holidays, and the last book in the Chestnut Springs series, Hopeless, was no exception. When I tell you I was kicking my feet giggling at the banter and the Eaton family shenanigans? A fake engagement with real feelings? Beau showing Bailey what it’s like to have someone show up for you, and Bailey calling Beau on his bullshit?!! Hopeless is the book version of Something to Talk About by Bonnie Raitt (complete with references!) and I simply cannot cope. It was great to see Silver address the less than idyllic side of Chestnut Springs in both Bailey and Beau’s experiences, which is something that was really missing in the previous books. This was an imperfect culmination to the series (I didn’t love the glossing over of Beau’s PTSD/his and Winter’s attitude about therapy) but I’m looking forward to reading her next release, Wild Love, next year!
