Did I buy a copy of the female translated Odyssey specifically because our new textbook excludes the sections about Athena, Circe, and Calypso? You bet your ass I did. While I didn’t have the time or bandwidth to work it into our recent unit (2020 is a beast), students did get to read about these women, and we did reflect on some big questions: from whose perspective have stories historically been told? Why does it matter who tells a story? And how do we work to become critical consumers of the information that’s presented to us? I think we can all benefit from reflecting on those questions. It’s the end of a long week, I’m tired, and I’m not sure how to wrap this up, so I’ll just say this: stay safe. Read books. Fight the patriarchy. 💛 via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CIqLD6DgdG4/
