I’m wearing my Support Educators shirt today as I return to teach in my classroom for the first time since March 13th. My coworkers and I are endlessly frustrated by the dynamics at play here - the ones that imply that we can’t teach remotely from our homes (so, what have we been doing this whole time?), that we aren’t being put at risk (even though our numbers are higher now than when we shut down), that moving to hybrid will be more effective, that we still need standardized testing for students and evaluations for teachers using the same standards we held our students and teachers to pre-pandemic. ⁣ Many of you are teachers, but many are not, so I would like to point out that these decisions are not made at the school level (by principals) but at the district or state level. I know that I’m lucky to have been able to avoid returning for as long as I have. I know I’m anxious. I know there are no easy answers. I know that this doesn’t feel like the beginning of a return to “normal” but instead like a whole new unknown. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CIf7QOcg-UZ/
