Unpopular opinion time! Circe by Madeline Miller gets a lot of love in this community - and I’m glad. I *loved* her first, Song of Achilles, and was very excited that my book club picked this as one of our selections this year. It clearly resonated with a lot of people...I just wasn’t one of them. Maybe it’s second book syndrome, but I found myself getting impatient with the characters. I was waiting for something to happen, but eventually realized that I’m just familiar with the mythology, so things were happening - it just didn’t feel that way to me. I also experienced the same frustration I felt when reading Rodham earlier this year (both are supposed to be feminist takes on familiar stories, and yet the story still revolves around the men in these women’s lives). If you’re interested in picking this one up, I’d encourage you to seek out some other reviews first - if only for the sake of balance! TW: rape via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CJJRhVPAiLT/
