Unpopular opinion time! Circe by Madeline Miller gets a lot of love in this community - and I’m glad. I *loved* her first, Song of Achilles, and was very excited that my book club picked this as one of our selections this year. It clearly resonated with a lot of people...I just wasn’t one of them. ⁣ Maybe it’s second book syndrome, but I found myself getting impatient with the characters. I was waiting for something to happen, but eventually realized that I’m just familiar with the mythology, so things were happening - it just didn’t feel that way to me. ⁣ I also experienced the same frustration I felt when reading Rodham earlier this year (both are supposed to be feminist takes on familiar stories, and yet the story still revolves around the men in these women’s lives). ⁣ If you’re interested in picking this one up, I’d encourage you to seek out some other reviews first - if only for the sake of balance! ⁣ TW: rape via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CJJRhVPAiLT/
