Do you ever want to love a book so badly? That’s how I feel about Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase. I really enjoyed the last two books I read by her, so when I saw this book when I was shopping recently I grabbed it, and was doubly excited because it had The Mummy vibes ๐ It’s got bodyguard romance vibes and road trip romance vibes too, butttt I didn’t love it. ๐ I KNOW. What is wrong with me?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Daphne is a language scholar determined to unlock the secret of hieroglyphics, but her project is derailed when her brother is kidnapped. After freeing Rupert from a Cairo prison, she enlists him — reluctantly — into helping her to track her brother down. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let’s start with the things I did like: -Daphne is a widow, so she has way more autonomy than your typical HR heroine -The snark. The banter. All excellent -Rupert is an absolute mess and I love him for it ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ultimately though, the pacing was slow and the storyline was convoluted. There was a lot of time spent on things that didn’t really get addressed in the end. I was frustrated a lot of the time and wished there had been more communication. The setting, which is different from the vast majority of historicals, detracted from my enjoyment of the book and felt problematic in its portrayal of Egyptian culture. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m 2-3 for Loretta Chase books, so I’m definitely going to pick up more of her books in the future! This one just wasn’t for me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CW: claustrophobia, sexual content ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: I’m holding a mass market paperback copy of Mr. Impossible up with one hand. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/ChuT6MDrK7D/
