Part of Your World is the fourth book by Abby Jimenez that I’ve read, so its safe to say I enjoy her writing. However, based on how many times I saw this book appear on year end favorites lists recently, I’m about to share an unpopular opinion: I didn’t capital L love this one. I guess I should have anticipated this when I saw friends say “I didn’t like her first few books, but I loved this one!” when I *did* love her first few books but 🤷🏻‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Part of Your World follows Alexis, an ER doc dealing with emotionally abusive parents and an emotionally abusive ex who is still very much in her life. Daniel is a carpenter and manager of a small town inn. Both feel like they’re carrying the world on their shoulders. There’s an age gap! They’re from different worlds! We can see where this is going! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I enjoyed the story enough to keep reading, but I found myself frustrated by a few elements. Alexis’s privilege and inability to adult was annoying and almost unbelievable — she is supposed to be pushing forty and can’t complete basic household tasks. There was a lot of time spent on the plot line regarding her brother and Lola, and yet we never actually met them. I didn’t connect with Alexis and Daniel’s relationship. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let’s get to the things I liked: Jimenez always does a great job balancing real issues with HEAs. I loved the representation of emotional abuse in familial relationships as well as romantic ones, and the way Alexis is working to break the cycle of abuse! Daniel is SO sweet. If you love a romance with golden retriever energy, you’ll love Daniel! I wished I got to see more of the town! The secondary characters and setting were super cute. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’ve read this, let me know your thoughts! And remember— every book isn’t for everyone. Just because it didn’t make my favorites, doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/Cm9KZOrrrHz/
