The Prince of Broadway by Joanna Shupe is the second book in the Uptown Girls series, and this one follows Florence and Clayton. Florence is a Gilded Age heiress who has no desire to marry or have children. Instead, she wants to open a casino for women, and seeks the help of Clayton Madden, who’s as successful as he is mysterious. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Florence is a times immature and unlikeable, but I respect that she knows who she is and what she wants and doesn’t stray from that over the course of the story — there’s no “I’ll never settle down” moment followed by a baby in the epilogue. She gave me major Phryne vibes from Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (from the pistol to the fan dance #iykyk) and the sisters’ grandmother was such a great addition to the plot! While I did find myself skimming a little — something I never do — I did ultimately enjoy how the story turned out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What to know: -revenge plot -class difference -age gap ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CW: sexual content ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID1: All three paperbacks from the Uptown Girls series stand on a white shelf. The first and third book are spine out, while The Prince of Broadway is facing cover out. ID2: A gif set from Miss Fisher’s. Aunt Prudence: “Why do you think you can just run off on your own?” Phryne:“Because I’m carrying a gun.” via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CfJhMNZrawB/
