The Devil of Downtown by Joanna Shupe is the final book in the Uptown Girls trilogy, and by far the angstiest of the three! Justine, the Peggy of our Hamilton sisters-esque trio, is a fierce girl with a heart of gold. She’s determined to use her skills to help the disenfranchised women of NYC, even if that means striking a deal with Jack, a kingpin even the most hardened criminals are afraid of. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What to know: -different worlds -good girl/bad boy ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even though I really liked Jack, I think this book was my least favorite of the three. Justine is at times incredibly immature and while I understand the choice Jack makes at the end of the book, I was also frustrated that it didn’t seem as though Justine had grown all that much. The moments between Clayton and Jack were great and I wish there had been more of them, given how much they have in common! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While I enjoyed this series and getting to revisit Gilded Age New York, it’s safe to say that Joanna Shupe’s most recent Fifth Avenue Rebels series remains my absolute favorite! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CW: domestic violence, alcoholism, death, sexual content ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: A flatlay of all three of the books in the Uptown Girls series, showing off their stunning clinch covers. There’s a white shelf and hardwood floors in the background. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CfOsiSIrJ1q/
