I’m wishing I was at the beach right now, but this throwback pic will have to do! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To quote the supreme R Eric Thomas, I am a chaos muppet. I read It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey AFTER reading Hook, Line, and Sinker but I literally did not care because all I want is to spend more time in Westport! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This book follows Piper, a Schitts Creek inspired character, who’s sent to a remote town on the Washington coast in an effort to get her to grow up. There, she keeps crossing paths with Brendan, a grouchy but handsome widow, along with a whole cast of characters who are so much fun to follow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What to know: -different worlds -he falls first -getting back to your roots -Schitts Creek and Gilmore Girls vibes ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Brendan and Piper have such a beautiful romance! I really appreciated that Tessa Bailey wrote Brendan as a character who isn’t afraid to apologize, to care about the people and places he loves, and who never, even before he falls for Piper, treats her the way that you expect a character like Piper to be treated. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Piper has a huge heart and it was great to see her come into herself as she learned more about who she was and about a side of her family she had never had the opportunity to know. There’s definitely more of Piper and Hannah’s relationship in this book than in the second, which I adored! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was definitely not expecting to love this book as much as I did, considering how hard I fell for Fox and Hannah’s story in book two, but I loved this book ALMOST as much as HL&S. Almost. But that’s still a whole lot. 😝 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CW: grief, loss of a loved one, estranged family, sexual content ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: I’m holding a kindle displaying the ebook cover of It Happened One Summer. There’s sand, ocean, and blue sky slightly out of focus in the background. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CebNdXWrzvE/
