I can’t remember who initially recommended Ravished by Amanda Quick to me, but I’m so glad @reads.by.rae encouraged me to finally pick it up! Ravished reads almost like a satire of gothic novels and historical romances as it leans into the campy nature of a story with thieves, treasure, a scarred villain (or is he? 🧐) and foggy beachside cliffs and it is so. much. fun! Harriet gives me big Minerva from A Week to Be Wicked vibes with her no nonsense, ALL FOSSILS ALL THE TIME energy. Love her. I like that Quick flips the script by having Gideon, the MMC, navigate society’s censure beyond typical rakish behavior and into full on disgrace/dishonor. I love when a character doesn’t need defending, but they *need* it, and only the people who really see them understand that, ya know? The moments where these two step up for each other are so sweet, but this book is also hilarious! The back and forth between these two!! I’ve been searching for books with characters who remind me of Rick and Evie from The Mummy, and Gideon and Harriet totally do! (Give me your recommendations for this dynamic, please and thank you) With the exception of the first 🌶️ scene, I was wildly impressed with how well this THIRTY YEAR OLD historical held up. ✨tidbits: -it wasn’t *really* a kidnapping -why would I slap you with my glove when I can punch you with my fist? -She loves me 🥺 -I don’t trust anyone the way I trust you Image 1: A mass market paperback copy of Ravished lays on a white comforter.
