“Isn’t it nice,” the older lady said, leaning in so that only Penelope could hear her words, “to discover that we’re not exactly what we thought we were?” Not me selling my Bridgerton books after reading The Duke and I because “I’ll just watch the show” only to find myself absolutely feral after the first half of season 3. 🤡 Dearest gentle reader, I am eating my words. While I maintain that I’m enjoying the show more than the books, it was fun to get to “visit” with these characters while waiting for the second half of the season to come out. The show has worked to retain some of the iconic moments between Penelope and Colin, but it diverges from the book a ton in terms of plot, so I wasn’t left feeling like I spoiled anything for myself. Interestingly enough, there are things I like and dislike about the book, and those are different from the things I’m liking and disliking about the season (so far) 🤣 Things I like about the book: -focus on Pen/Colin rather than ensemble -Colin comes off as less of a fuckboi than in the show -Their relationship evolves more naturally (imo) -More Bridgerton fam moments -No Eloise/Pen falling out -Penelope and Lady Danbury’s relationship Things I like about the show (so far): -Colin and Violet’s relationship is better in the show than in the book -Pen doesn’t lose weight as part of her glow up -Help me find a partner/love triangle/angsty pining -The Featherington family hilarity I’m a huge historical romance reader and have been overjoyed with the popularity of the show since it’s very first season, but there is something really special for me about seeing a plus sized woman be the main character and be loved and desired.
