First: a shout out to friends who let you borrow books when you see them on their shelf and say I'M READING THIS, kay? Book people are the best people. Second: American Royals by Katherine McGee was not what I expected. It was pitched to me as a book about America with a monarchy instead of a democracy, and while that's technically true, the book really isn't about that at all. Instead, it follows four women who are a part of (or connected to) the royal family. They face similar challenges to the children of presidents: pressures and events and limelight they didn't ask for. Through it all, they are trying to navigate early adulthood and relationships, both familial and romantic. That, plus the fact that one of them will be the next heir to the throne makes this story v DRAMATIC. There are elements of Crazy Rich Asians, The Selection, Gossip Girl, Reign...I loved it. I don't like multiple viewpoint novels and I wanted to skip ahead to continue reading about one particular character, but I'm too much of a rule follower for that 🤣 I would love to know why McGee chose these particular characters to tell this story! It seems like a deliberate choice (there is a lot that will probably become clear as the series unfolds.) That ENDING though. I'm glad I was able to read this book fairly close to the release of the second book (Sept.), because I'll definitely be fighting my hatred of multiple POV novels to find out what happens in Majesty! 😂 via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CCTTYVRgHYW/
