BREAKING NEWS: WOMAN LOVES EMILY HENRY NOVEL ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shocker, I know. 🤣 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Nora is an ice queen, the ambitious New York agent who gets left for the quirky small town inn owner in every rom-com ever (picture Tom Hank’s girlfriend in You’ve Got Mail). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wanting to reconnect with her sister Libby, Nora agrees to vacation with her in small town NC, and reconnects with editor Charlie, and herself, in the process. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s been almost a year since I last read an Emily Henry novel, and reading Book Lovers reminded me how Henry has this way of putting words to family and love and loss that gives me full body goosebumps. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Nora is probably the character in Henry’s books that is most like me: someone with big oldest sibling, mom friend, tall girl energy. Someone who doesn’t cry and wants to control everything and who thinks that if they try hard enough, they’ll be able to hold it all together. A woman who, despite all outward evidence, feels too much. Someone who loses herself in books, and finds herself in them, too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But even if you don’t relate to Nora as deeply as me, there is so much to enjoy in this novel. It’s banter, and reluctant smiles, and a Stars Hollow-esque town meeting. It’s the right balance of pop culture references, and a checklist, and a plan to have a romance novel experience. It’s Beach Read easter eggs, and it’s a book about books and the people that love them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CW: grief, loss of a loved one, anxiety, sexual content ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: I’m holding a kindle displaying the ebook cover of Book Lovers against a wall decorated with various embroidery hoops. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/Cdnse8yLlfY/
