Shoutout to @aliciaclarereads for recommending When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare and putting up with me as I repeatedly messaged her some variation of “but it’s SO funny?!” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To get her friends and family off her back, Maddie makes up a sweetheart: a soldier at war to whom she’s been writing letters. Much to her chagrin, her imaginary suitor shows up on her doorstep, letters in hand, and she must reckon with the consequences! I don’t think I’ve ever read a historical rom com before and it was so silly and lovely. Maddie is so endearing and Logan is the perfect grumbly match for her. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love an unconventional heroine (but NOT in a “I’m not like other girls way”) and Maddie definitely fits the bill. I love the way her family and Logan embrace the things that make her who she is. One of my favorite parts of the novel was the conversation between Aunt Thea when Maddie reveals her secret — one about women doing what they can to make their way in a world that doesn’t quite fit them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I wish they had more fully addressed Maddie’s social anxiety but I loved how supportive Logan was of Maddie’s dreams and vice versa, I loved that Tessa Dare wrote a bonus epilogue so we could see all the men get their HEA, and I loved the SQUISH. 🥺 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CW: social anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, parental abandonment, sexual content ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: I’m holding a mass market paperback of When a Scot Ties the Knot in one hand. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Psst! It’s @pattyisbooked and @jm_bibliolater’s #BookstaReviewWeek! Give someone’s reviews some love. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CeGlgUYLDgU/
