Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Her sister’s upcoming wedding makes Callie realize that she isn’t living the life of adventure she wants, but instead a life of staid respectability that everyone expects. So, she makes a list of things a lady would never do and decides to accomplish them all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Gabriel is a known rake who makes a deal to help Callie accomplish the first item on her list, in exchange for help with a challenge of his own. This book feels like a Regency era rom-com, complete with makeovers, disguises, and all kinds of shenanigans that were my favorite moments! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While I liked Callie and Gabriel and the book’s premise, I really struggled with the pacing. It felt very slow and repetitive at times. If I remember correctly, this is MacLean’s first novel. I’m making my way through her backlist, so it’s interesting to see how much she has evolved as a writer. I’m also looking forward to the next book in the series, about Gabriel’s brother Nick, who I love! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CW: sexual content, parental abandonment ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID1: A mass market paperback of Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake sits on a blanket. I’m touching the book with one hand so you can see my manicure. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID2: A gifset of Rory and Lorelei. L: “Luke can waltz.” R: “Look how you just said Luke can waltz.” L: “What, I’m just saying I’m surprised that Luke can waltz.” R: “That sounded more like ‘I’m surprised I still have my clothes on.’” via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CdQp3IKrF1K/
