It’s me, once again asking you to read some Mary Oliver. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This beautiful edition of Devotions was gifted to me by a friend, and remains one of my favorites to date. This is the eighth book of Oliver’s poetry that I’ve read as part of #TheMaryOliverProject and it is comprised of selections by the author from her body of work. As a result, I’d read many of the poems before; however, that in no way lessened my enjoyment as I made my way through them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There’s something about Oliver’s writing about joy, about fear, about nature, about being in this world that just resonates. This book is called Devotions, which is apt — the world was Oliver’s church, her worship in the careful attention and wonderment she brought to each of its subjects. Her poetry doesn’t gatekeep and doesn’t exist only for scholars to dissect. It’s accessible, and you can start anywhere. If you’re looking for an overview of her work, you can start here. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID1: A grey and white paperback of Devotions lays on a grey sheet next to a grey journal cover and AirPods in a grey case.
