I read Bluets by Maggie Nelson because of @readkaylaread and it broke my brain as I knew it would. I love reading or watching or listening to people talk about things they’re passionate about, and this is exactly that kind of book. Part epistle, part poem, Bluets ties Nelson’s connection to the color blue to emotions, nature, relationships, objects. Blue is less a color than it is a framework for understanding her world and herself. If you’re looking for a short but thought provoking read to finish out the year, pick this one up! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some favorites: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “It is, perhaps, my way of making my life feel “in progress” rather than a sleeve of ash falling off a lit cigarette.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “When I say “hope,” I don’t mean hope for anything in particular. I guess I just mean thinking that it’s worth it to keep one’s eyes open.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Mostly I have felt myself becoming a servant to sadness. I am still looking for the beauty in that.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I want you to know, if you ever read this, there was a time when I would rather have had you by my side than any one of these words.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: I’m sitting on rug.
