My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid is the Beauty and the Beast retelling I didn’t know I needed (complete with a “under no circumstances should you enter the west wing” moment). Katherine is determined to secure the futures of her younger sisters by telling the world she is engaged to the reclusive Duke of Thornton. Alexander is intrigued by the woman audacious enough to pull off this con — so much so that he’s not even mad. The push and pull between these characters was great and while I can’t speak to the disability/chronic pain representation, I very much enjoyed this book and will be seeking out the rest of the series as soon as I can (my library, sadly, doesn’t have either of the other two books!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Edited to add that it was just announced that this series is going to be adapted for television, and I could not be more excited!! I think the success of Bridgerton really showed people that there is a mainstream market for historical romance, and I hoped it would open a door for just this kind of storytelling! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: I’m touching a mass market paperback copy of My Darling Duke that’s laying on a cream colored blanket. via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/ClqqCPSr-W1/
