The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon has been making the rounds on bookstagram lately, and for good reason! I love this book because I love enthusiasm and Solomon’s passion for public radio shines. I love radio, podcasts, books, and tv because I love the power of storytelling too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Dominic and Shay are coworkers persuaded to fake being exes in order to to help their Seattle public radio station, which is struggling to remain relevant in a media deluge. In the course of reverse engineering a relationship, Shay and Dominic go to battle about hard news and human interest stories and discover that they share a connection that’s about more than their mutual love of podcasts and live radio. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I loved the way this book deals with not only their relationship, but also Shay’s relationship with her mother in the wake of her fathers death, the misogyny she faces in the workplace, and the way in which she learns to find a healthy relationship with her best friend (something that I don’t think we see enough of). I appreciated seeing a relationship between Jewish (own voices) and Korean characters because I haven’t come across a lot of Jewish protagonists in contemporary romance. Ultimately this one lived up to the hype for me, and I’ll definitely be seeking out more of Solomon’s books in the future! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TW: grief, death of a parent via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CPYMIL6rcjJ/
