Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m two for two with Sally Thorne books this month, and I’m very much looking forward to reading The Hating Game whenever my library bestows my long awaited hold upon me 🤣 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Disciplined Ruthie and chaotic Teddy are an opposites attract situation for sure, and their relationship was SO much fun to watch. They have an initial P&P-like bad first impression, but quickly recover...a little workplace romance, a little forced proximity, a bit of a sunshine/grump thing going on, but I love that they don’t fit easily into any one trope! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love how Thorne makes her settings feel like characters, too - the retirement community was such a joy, and I kept imagining shopping with Ruthie at the thrift store. I also loved the side characters - especially Ruthie’s unexpected and genuine friendship with Melanie and the Parlonis! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ More notes on Second First Impressions that I struggled to make into a cohesive review: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -for those who dislike insta love - a slow burn -tattoos and cardigans -loss of faith -Fictional fandom/TV show obsession -overcoming fear of change, finding love and acceptance -normalizing anxiety/panic attacks and therapy -no weirdness around a character’s sexual inexperience -Renata and Agatha (iykyk) -we love an earnest, boyish romantic lead! 😍 via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/COaVbVCrGIS/
